battery and vehicle

Efficient interface between battery system and vehicle

To ensure the scalability of the Standardized Battery System, Webasto offers two different interfaces: the Vehicle Interface Box (VIB) and the Vehicle Interface Gateway (VIG). Learn more about the advantages of both products and find the right choice for you.

Vehicle Interface Box (VIB)

The Vehicle Interface Box ensures the scalability of the Webasto Standardized Battery System.  It is not only a very efficient interface, but also combines the functions of power distributor, master BMS and fuses in one robust housing.  As the main control unit of the entire battery system, the VIB enables the connection of up to 10 Standard Battery Systems.  This creates a modular battery system that can be adapted to the requirements of many vehicle types.

Scalable system

The Vehicle Interface Box is the main control unit of the entire battery system and enables the connection of up to 10 Standarized Batteries at a system voltage of 400 or 800 Volt.

Highest safety standards

The Vehicle Interface Box was developed and produced as well as certified according to the highest safety standards. It also offers integrated safety protection and insulation measurement monitoring.

Charging infrastructure

The Vehicle Interface Box is designed for direct current charging (DC) and has a connector for onboard charger.

Robust housing

Thanks to its robust housing, the Vehicle Interface Box is designed to meet the requirements of commercial vehicles and mobile machinery. This allows it to be used individually in a wide variety of vehicle applications.

Vehicle Interface Gateway (VIG)

In addition to the powerful and intelligent Vehicle Interface Box, Webasto also offers the Vehicle Interface Gateway (VIG). This gives customers even more power for on-road vehicles and with more compact dimensions. This offers greater flexibility when combined with the Standardized Battery System and when used in a limited installation space. At the same time, customers remain flexible in the design of the Power Distribution Unit (PDU).

For off-road use, Webasto offers the Vehicle Interface Gateway Plus (VIG Plus) in addition. The VIG Plus has a very robust housing for use in mobile machines and is CE certified for this purpose.

Scalable system

The Vehicle Interface Gateway is a small and flexible master BMS and allows interconnection of up to 18 batteries at a system voltage of 400 or 800 Volt.

High power output

With the Vehicle Interface Gateway, the maximum power of the battery system can be obtained and therefore it allows a high output power. There is no HV limitation.

Highest safety standards

The Vehicle Interface Gateway was developed and produced as well as certified according to the highest safety standards for the commercial vehicle market.

Off-road use

For use in mobile machines, Webasto offers a more robust variant: Vehicle Interface Gateway Plus (VIG Plus).
