Central thermal management in
ambulances with new heaters from Webasto

At RETTmobil International 2025, Webasto will be presenting heating and cooling solutions for electric and conventional rescue vehicles that can be flexibly modulated. A new air heater and two optimized water heaters will be on display for the first time at booth 608.

Gilching – February 18, 2025 - Modern ambulances are equipped with complex communication systems for fast, central control of the devices on board. When it comes to temperature control, it is important to automatically coordinate all heating and cooling devices. This allows the system to reach the pre-set target temperature quickly and efficiently and then maintain it evenly. At the trade fair, Webasto is showcasing three heaters that enable optimum individual communication connection.
The new Air Top Pro 25 air heater heats the vehicle interior with a maximum of 2.5 kilowatts (kW). Once the target temperature is reached, the device regulates in partial load. Thanks to an extremely low partial load level of just 0.7 kW, the heater consumes little fuel and is barely audible. In addition, a new brushless motor concept contributes to the increased efficiency of the Air Top Pro 25 compared to its predecessor model, the Air Top 2000 STC. Diesel, petrol and HVO can be used as fuels. The heater is infinitely variable and keeps temperatures very constant.
The Webasto parking heaters Thermo Top Evo Smart (12 V) and Thermo Top Pro 50 (24 V) heat the vehicle's coolant circuit with up to 5 kW and bring heat into the vehicle via the existing air outlets. The windshield defrosts and the driver's area warms up. Both water heaters are fitted with a new circulation pump with a longer service life. In automatically controlled heating mode, the appliances heat with just 1.8 kW. This optimized efficiency ensures significantly reduced fuel consumption and therefore lower emissions.
Thanks to a new digital LIN interface, the three devices can be configured according to individual requirements and then controlled centrally. The air heater can also be integrated via CAN using the Webasto Cronus control unit. Fewer sensors and fewer cables are used, integration is easier to implement and remains flexible until shortly before the end of the project. To protect the furniture, for example, a maximum temperature for the outflowing air can be set for the Air Top Pro 25. A modular approach consisting of several heaters or combined with the Webasto Cool Top Trail air conditioning system is also possible.
Webasto offers a similar modular concept for electrically powered vehicles with 400 or 800-volt high-voltage and 12 or 24-volt low-voltage vehicle electrical systems with its combination of electric high-voltage heaters, compressors and cooling/heating units flexibly installed in the vehicle.
All heaters are protected against cyber attacks in accordance with ISO 21434 and certified accordingly.
