Sustainable
roof concept
Webasto is the first automotive supplier to present a roof concept for sustainable mobility, less CO2e and more range with the "EcoPeak":
"Due to its large total surface area, the roof has a significant impact on the overall CO2e footprint of the vehicle. As the market leader in this supplier sector, we therefore see it as our responsibility to offer our customers an alternative to conventional roof systems that perfectly combines sustainability, functionality and aesthetic design", says Jan Henning Mehlfeldt, Member of the Executive Board and globally responsible for roof systems at Webasto. "By paying attention to recyclability, we ensure that materials can be efficiently recovered and reused, minimizing waste and extending the life cycle of resources."
Sustainability meets aesthetic design
The vision of a sustainable and aestethic roof concept leads to multiple benefits, like revolutionary design, recycled materials and usage of solar cells.
- Design
- Material
- Solar
“EcoPeak” - The roller blind concept
A standout feature of the “EcoPeak” is its integrated roller blinds, crafted from fabric made from recycled PET bottles.
“EcoPeak” - The Bio-mass balanced polycarbonate panel
The use of bio-mass balanced polycarbonate and sustainable plastics in place of aluminum reduces the roof system's weight by up to 40% compared to conventional solutions. This significant weight reduction not only enhances energy and fuel efficiency but also improves driving dynamics. Despite the lighter weight, the product maintains the high level of durability and quality you expect.
“EcoPeak” - The solar cell technology
The "EcoPeak" roof system, achieves up to 50% less CO2e emissions compared to traditional designs, thanks to the use of biomass-balanced and recycled materials. When solar cells are integrated, the environmental benefits increase further over the system's lifetime, reaching a break-even point in approximately two years. From that point onward, under optimal conditions, the CO2e balance becomes climate-positive.
The expanded roof surface with integrated solar cells generates up to 350 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually, which can power the vehicle for roughly 2,500 kilometers, depending on the vehicle type and ideal weather conditions.
In addition to energy generation, the solar cells serve as both a design and functional feature for customers. They not only offer a unique differentiating element - something many customers appreciate when opting for solar roofs, but also provide shading in the rear area, enhancing passenger comfort.
